Once everyone was back on board, Fram left for Culverville Island. We had changed out of our wet clothes and went for a buffet lunch..
After lunch we went up to the Observation Lounge to watch the beautiful scenery glide by.
On the way we did see the outline of a whale as it swam parallel to the ship but it didn’t come fully to the surface.
After we had seen the whale we decided that we should get suited up and get outside on deck to take in the views.
In the afternoon of Tuesday 28th February we went to Culverville Island and saw more Gentoo penguins seals and lots of icebergs around the beach landing. Some of the passengers were lucky enough to watch a whale from the Polar Circle cruise.
On the way to Culverville Island
On our starboard side we passed a Chilean Station nestled out on a rocky peninsular. With a closer look we could see hundreds of penguins around the base.
The channel that we were following was spectacular.
Quark Endeavour
Out on deck we watched as Fram came to a junction in the passage and ahead of us was another expedition ship making the same transit.
We later passed Quark Endeavour with its zodiac boats deployed as we neared our next landing point Culverville Island.

Whale off Culverville Island
While we waited for our boarding party to be called we watched the Polar Circle cruising boats set off.
Then a whale breached a few hundred meters from them.
The whale then swam around an iceberg and went closer to the shore but didn’t breach again. I only had a 105 mm lens on the camera rather than my 400 mm telephoto – definitely a missed opportunity.
