This was the second round of the season. This second round had “open” for theme and a “smartphone” image for the second.
Participants had to submit images that had a roughly defined “genre” in addition to the nominated “theme” with the added condition that each submitted image must have a different “genre”.
The two PDI divisions are now combined into just one for judging.
Step Carefully
This image was of someone coming down the steps at a London Underground station.
I selected “Street photography” as the genre . . .
Summary of judge’s comments
…I like the almost graphical treatment that you have here, a triangle, the right angle here, the Underground sign, parallel lines here , lines going up, the guard rail that the young lady is about to grab hold of
… the sky which is looking quite grey, I would want to calm the sky down so that we don’t really see the spots
… but the context I think is very well executed, the white key line helps the image and the young women there is well placed
One London Bridge
I took this image with my iPhone14Pro of One London Bridge while I waited for my workshop with Ovi to start. I have done no processing to the image other than moving the JPG from my phone to my desktop.
I selected “Architecture” as the genre.
Summary of judge’s comments
…With your mobile phone jut hold it up like that
… I like the geometric shapes that you have got there, I think that we are rewarded by the clouds in the sky , that triangle very craftily mimics the parallel side of the edge there
… t5hat is a great touch
… I do enjoy this triangle that we have here, you have thought very carefully about all the elements and the symmetry that we have
… hold that one back please
The scores
There were 21 images in this round of the PDI Trophy “Step carefully” scored 8.5 and “One London Bridge” scored xx.

One London Bridge
I only slightly adjusted the iphone14Pro’s JPG’s image.
Highlights +-7, Contrast -27 and exposure -0.33. So the presented image was very close to “out of the camera”
