This Night Photography tour was organised by Sky Blue Photography through Virgin Experiences. Earlier in the day I had a walk through the Leake Street tunnel before visiting the Pall Mall Gallery.
Light and Land on the Mall
This was one of the last days of the exhibition organised by Charlie Waite’s Light and Land. I particularly wanted to see the images of Caroline Preece and Bill Ward.
At the September 2024 Colour walk I learnt that one of the other sets of images that I had admired were by Glynn Powell-Evans.
Trafalgar Square
I had a few hours to wait before the Night Photography started and as I walked back from the gallery I stopped for a coffee at Cafe Nero and watched the world pass by opposite Trafalgar Square.
Cafe Nero closed behind me as I waited. Then I took the rest of my coffee and walked down Whitehall towards the Houses of Parliament. Opposite No 10 was a demonstration supporting Ukraine. The Red Lion had lots of customers drinking outside and down the side street. One of their outside table was the first pace that could find down Whitehall to leave my empty coffee cup.
Parliament Square
I dodged the traffic and crossed over to Parliament Square. Then sitting on the wall behind Churchill’s statue I experimented taking pictures from there. In one of my zoom workshops we had seen a picture of this statue and speculated how it had been taken. Here is my attempt.
Outside Westminster Tube station
I was early for the tour and I leaned on the wall outside the tube station. I guessed that other attendees of the tour were around but so were lots of tourists. Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower were the main forecast of the people in front of me on the pavement.
The Night Photography Tour
The leader of the tour was again David who had lead my earlier Sky Blue Photography organised tours around Notting Hill.
After introductions from David and each of the participants we set off for the Victoria Embankment.
The London Eye
This was our first stop.
Then using a tripod with a multi second exposure:
Then it was time to play zooming in and out and moving the lens sideways:
St Paul’s
We caught the tune from Westminster to Mansion HOuse. Form there we walked back along Cannon Street to the junction of Distaff Lane. There we set up to wait for buses to pass.
And further down the pavement.
The Reflection Garden
Off New Change we walked into the Reflection Garden. A first at this location for me.
Tower Bridge
A short tube ride took us to Tower Hill station. We then walked onto Tower Bridge.
I left the tour after these two shots as I wanted to catch an earlier train from Waterloo.
Being so late at Waterloo, I was able to take a picture of just the statue celebrating the Windrush generation.
