For the Clive Harrison Trophy I chose ICM images taken on Karl Johans Gata in Oslo
This trophy is an annual competition for a thematic panel of between three and eight prints. The images should all share a common theme, tell a story or complement each other in some way when viewed together.
My statement :
In Oslo, Karl Johans Gata runs dead straight from parliament to the palace grounds. Despite being a pedestrian precinct the road is always busy with electric scooters and the occasional electric car. This Summer evening I stood halfway down and enjoyed capturing them passing by and by using one second exposures and some panning I soon had a set of ICM images that captured them whizzing past.
Judge’s comments
… I like the idea of this, it is something different
… it is only easy if you are good at it , if had a camera that shoots at 1/200th you could easily capture these crisply, and it is the actual alternative to do something with a slow shutter speed, and maybe pan as well just to get the impression of movement
… the one on the left I think is the one , and I think probably works best for me , you’ve just got the basis of a shape , and movement, the author has achieved that , lovely flowing sense of movement
… I don’t thing the car is quite as good a picture especially this light area here [bottom of image] there is something else in the foreground and is just out of focus
… they are probably 1,3,2 in order of merit
… this one [on the right] does work to some extent and you can certainly see what it is and the movement and the author has left a portion of the image for the movement to go into, but not on that one [the car], this is something I often look for in composition
… it is a very interesting panel, certainly the images are linked, not so much the middle one [the car], this maybe is just a personal preference
… the image on the left is the one I like most of all
