Our visit to The Shard and The London Steakhouse in the City had been cancelled a couple of times earlier due to lockdowns. So it was with some relief that we finally caught the train from Farnborough to begin our visit to London.
Brick Lane
After Bishopsgate we walked down Middlesex Street, past The Steakhouse and into the area of Petticoat Lane market. This a view of the City from the market area.
We walked down Brick Lane to Bethnal Green Road and then back again via Trumans Brewery Yard.
This mural by Dan Kitchener had faired better than his newer one on Brick Lane itself that was now completely covered in tags.
In the brewery yard.
Back on the lane.
The mural of Mrs Burns on Bacon Street has not been tagged much unlike the mural of her husband.
The Star Yard has altered so much over the last year as it has been redeveloped, this mural on the wall is only visible after squeezing between the parked cars.
I had heard a plane overhead several times and finally I caught a grab shot from the yard as it passed overhead. A De Haviland Rapide.
The church spire from the yard.
And this paste up caught my eye as we walked back out onto the lane.
Then it was almost time for lunch. Here’s another view of the City on our walk back to Middlesex Street.
On our walk back to The Steakhouse we were tempted (again just like last visit) by the street food on offer. The stalls were all very busy with locals and City workers alike taking advantage of the wide choices of food available.
The London Steakhouse
We walked back to the London Steakhouse from Brick Lane through what at weekends would become the Petticoat Lane market.
A little too early we sat in the small square outside the restaurant and rested our feet.
Once inside we were shown to our table.
London Steakhouse Co., 109-117 Middlesex Street, London
Food better than the service, no COVID precautions – beware
We upgraded to the ‘VIP’ package to get water, two sides, a bottle of wine and coffees. Virgin Experience do not make it clear just how much extra it will cost when buying the package to eat here (AND the service charges!)
We were rushed to order and especially hurried when ordering our wine – but from then on the service was relaxed.
The pate starter was good. The steaks were cooked to perfection and sharing the sides at least made the main course a little more!
COVID related: VERY surprised at how close we were seated to other diners, no mask wearing by staff and no mask wearing advice while walking about the restaurant – not ideal in a basement restaurant.
Our advice would be to avoid until pandemic is over OR the management put in reasonable COVID safety procedures.
