The main street of Sydney was turned into classic car show on the day of our visit.
We sat in the sun and had lunch washed down with local beer before visiting the supermarket to stock up on essentials.
Our cruise to Canada and New England took us across the Atlantic to St John’s, Newfoundland; Sydney, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; two days in New York City; Newport, Rhode Island, Boston, Massachusetts; Rockland, Maine; St John, New Brunswick; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and back across the Atlantic to Southampton.
Day 8 Saturday 21st September 2019: Sydney Nova Scotia, Canada
We had another peaceful transit overnight and we were woken up by a combination of the alarm on my phone and the ship’s thrusters as we docked. Breakfast was again in the International restaurant. There was again a queue for couples only tables and on the other side there was no queue for sharing.
Our table for six had to wait for orders as everywhere was very busy. One couples’ eggs had to be sent back and to help we explained the difference between sunny side up and easy-over to our table colleagues. While we were having breakfast there was an announcement about the crew drills planned to take place while in the port. By the time we’d finished breakfast the drill had already started. This meant that one of the gangplanks was closed and the staircase marshals were in all position.
Once of the ship, we walked around the terminal building and joined the boardwalk.
A spur off the boardwalk took us to the statue that commemorated the Atlantic convoys that had left Sydney during WWII.
Charlotte Street
We could hear car engines and we abandoned the boardwalk and headed up to the main street, Charlotte Street. This was closed to traffic and had cars and trucks parked tail in on both sides.
This was a gathering of vintage and not so vintage cars from around the province not just from Sydney. There was a sound stage further down the street blasting out country music and rock music. The street was full of people and we joined the crowds stopping at the cars on both sides for a look. A lot of the shops were closed including the post office.
I stopped to look at this beautiful Shelby Cobra.
On the left as we walked down I spotted these murals.
