We had one more sea day as Oceana sailed from Split to Valletta. After such a long time away we had a lot of packing.
Once in Valletta we left the ship early in the morning to catch our flight to Gatwick.
Oceana was now passing down the coast of Italy on the Adriatic.
Our breakfast was on the table shared with other passengers. For the first time this cruise we shared with a passenger who clearly didn’t like the staff. She never said “please” or “thank you”. Without thinking we kept adding a polite word after her demands on the staff.
When she left after breakfast our Australian table companions commented on her rudeness. All we could do was apologise for her rude behaviour and embarrassing of us on the table.
We wait to see Nigel Marvin’s talk about Grey Whales and their passage up and down the Pacific Coast of North America. He had followed the migration from the warm waters off Mexico all the way up to the Arctic Circle.
He told us about the large numbers of the birds that had nested on board the ship overnight. He hoped that they would headway from Malta and avoid the illegal netting of migrating birds that takes place on the island.
After a busy two days we went back to our cabin to read and to have a rest.
Our lunch was in Café Jardin and I had my usual pizza plus a salad washed down by a Peroni beer. Then we went back to the cabin for some packing and to watch the ‘Return of Mary Poppins’ on the TV.

The 45 minute wait for our dinner seems somehow fitting for our last evening meal on board Oceana.
I doubled up on starters and had the asparagus and egg (again) followed by prawn cocktail (again). To fit in with my déjà vu last dinner I had steak (no mushrooms still) and a rhubarb crumble.
We all went up to Winners Bar to watch sport on the TVs and have a final drink. Then it was back to the cabin to finish packing and to put our suitcases out in the corridor.

Weather Overcast, ShowersOn this day at sea, Oceana made good South Easterly courses, passing South of Italy and Sicily, as she proceeded towards her summer turnaround port of Valletta.
From departure Split until noon today, Oceana steamed 202nm at an average speed of 16.1 knots.
