This was my second RPS workshop with Jon Gray. This workshop was titled ‘Hollywood Beauty Lighting Intensive’ and was at the Coach House Photography Studio in Farningham in Kent.
Once off the M25 we followed the signs to Farningham and turned off the A20. The High Street is quite narrow with parked cars on either side. The studio is at the side of the Pied Bull pub on the right hand side. The buildings at the side of the small car park had been on fire earlier in the month. Luckily the studio had survived. Once inside we discovered that the boiler had been in the part of the buildings lost to the fire.
Our model for the shoot was Roseanne.
The format for the day followed the earlier workshop, a briefing, then one-to-one sessions with Roseanne as the six attendees. My change to camera settings for the day was to change my camera’s picture style to be Mono. This meant I could see the image immediately rendered in black/white as a JPG on the camera. The RAW images would still retain all the colours for later processing. This blog uses the ‘medium’ JPG images direct from the camera.
Before we started the studio received a heating boost. The only downside was that the heater was using chip fat and the studio gained a new smell as well as a fug from the chip fat!

First session
No separation of Roseanne’s shadow and too much space on the right . . .
